Initiated by the shadows she observed in the earth, the artist spent many months experimenting with a method that allows objects to be represented in two dimensions on canvas. The image has been transformed to its own reproduction which is based on the artist's interpretation. This is especially effective when working with living things or objects that can be perishable like people or fruits. Alexa Meade's paintings are ephemeral however the photograph is the only thing that remains. Trompe l'oeil is achieved using the two processes of painting and photographing. This creates an unflattened and two-dimensional photograph. Meade sometimes incorporates her painted figures in the 3D world that surrounds them. They are able to interact with the world she has created for herself. The result is a blurring of the lines between photography, painting, and installation.
